Hatha Pradipika mentions that the daily practice of the cleansing and purificatory techniques brings about youth and health to the practitioner. The ability to control and hold the breath allows us to regulate the nervous system, and what follows the other systems - such as endocrine, digestive, lymphatic and cardiovascular.

The ability to breathe through both nostrils and regulate the breath helps to nourish body and mind.

During the workshop we will discuss the following topics:

  • How does the process of breathing look like

  • What is the difference between Kriya and Pranayama

  • How to breathe so that we can live a long and healthy life

  • How can we lengthen our breath

  • What is synaptic plasticity and how can breathing affect the nervous system

  • Why releasing the diaphragm is so important for a healthy lifestyle

  • How does the strengthening of the pelvic floor support yoga practice and the breath.

We will also learn and practice the following Kriya an Pranayama practices:

Nauli

Kapalabathi

Brahma Mudra

Simha Mudra & Jiva Bandha

Ujjayi Pranayama

Surya / Chandra Bedana

Anuloma Viloma

Sitali Pranayama

Bramari Pranayama

We will also explore the ways to safely hold the breath (Kumbakha) and set a foundation for a daily Kriya and Pranayama practice.

You don’t need to practice Ahstanga Yoga in order to attend this workshop. Each participant will leave this workshop with a short sequence of practice which they can implement in the daily life.
