NILAYAM - Class Description

Ashtanga Mysore
Monday to Sunday, beginner friendly.

Discover the transformative power of Ashtanga Mysore Style at Nilayam.

Ashtanga Mysore Style are the signature classes at Nilayam and you will find majority of them in our schedule.

We believe that every practitioner is unique and deserves personalized attention. In our Mysore Style sessions, our dedicated teachers strive to provide individual guidance tailored to your specific needs.

While the sequence in taught Mysore Style class is based on the primary series of Ashtanga Yoga, you don't need prior familiarity with it to join our shala. Come with an open mind and a willingness to learn, and we'll teach you everything you need to know.

If you are new to this practice or you have not practiced Ashtanga Mysore style before, on your day one you will be introduced to the practice of Surya Namaskara A & B. Please be patient as the repetition of the practice is the key to success.

If you have already been practicing Ashtanga Mysore at another shala and have progressed beyond the Primary Series, we encourage you to speak with us before practicing. We will usually advise you to continue practicing the Primary Series until we ask you to progress with the postures.

Whether you're a traveler or simply visiting our studio, we will fully support your practice. However, please understand that on your first day with us, we may not significantly change your practice. We prefer to observe and understand each individual's body before introducing new postures or making significant changes.

This is a beginner friendly class!

Ashtanga Led Class
Full Primary and Half Primary Series

In this class the teacher guides all practitioners at the same time, allowing them to follow the verbal cues of the sequence of postures.

The Ashtanga Full Primary Series Led Class is a 90 minutes class suitable for intermediate and advanced practitioners who are familiar with the Ashtanga Yoga system, its terminology, and the correct alignment of the postures and preferably have been attending Mysore Style Classes for a while. This class offers an opportunity to practice in a group setting, where the teacher will provide verbal cues and adjustments to help students deepen their practice.

Ashtanga Yoga Half Primary Series Led Class is a modified version of the Full Primary Series, designed for practitioners who are new to Ashtanga Yoga or prefer more gentle practice. This 75-minute class covers the foundational postures and provides a balanced and energizing experience. While it is recommended to have previous experience with Ashtanga or Vinyasa, it is not necessary to be established in the practice to join this class.

Both Full Primary and Half Primary classes offer a dynamic and physically demanding practice that focuses on breath control, strength, flexibility, and concentration. Through a carefully sequenced series of postures, students will explore the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method, including sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, backbends, and inversions.

Please come prepared with a yoga mat, towel, and make sure to drink enough water before the class. Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for a full range of movement. It is advised to avoid heavy meals at least two hours before the class to ensure a comfortable practice.

Join the Ashtanga Led Class to challenge yourself, cultivate mindfulness, and experience the transformative power of this traditional yoga practice.
